Our goals and motivation
Lea Dohrmann:
"Because I’ve been working as a student employee for two years at the HRA, I am already familiar with the institution. As a member of the Doctoral Council, I would like to create new opportunities for networking and promote authentic exchange. It is particularly important to me to strengthen a sense of community among us doctoral students, which accompanies us through the ups and downs of this interesting journey. The topics of mental health, self-reflection and self-management are central to me. I would also like to involve more PhD beginners in order to provide orientation and community."
Charlotte Dumitrascu:
"As a member of the PhD council I aim to look into the interests of families within Academia. I am a mother of a 7-year-old and know how difficult it can be to find the balance between the academic world and family life in the daily routine. Thus, I want to work together with the council to promote the compatibility of PhD and family and to create information and consultation services. It is very important to me to put a spotlight on the particular difficulties of PhD candidates with children to offer them solutions on how to successfully achieve their PhD."
Janna Ehrlich:
"The mental health of PhD candidates lies very close to my heart. I experienced many of the stresses and strains that are involved with working towards a PhD. I am dedicated to advocate for programs and support measures which focus on establishing and facilitating mental health for PhD candidates."
Dennis Lopatta:
“Networking and the sharing of ideas with other doctoral researchers can be helpful for your own learning. This is why we would like the Doctoral Council to play a central role in helping doctoral researchers in Hamburg to network. We need to understand the situation of doctoral researchers and then to offer services that meet their needs.”
Mirjam Reidick:
"Connecting doctoral candidates in Hamburg is important to me because together we can learn valuable things from each other, support one another, and have a good time together. In this context, I also aim to actively involve international doctoral candidates. Another focus for me as a psychologist is the mental health of doctoral candidates."
Constanze Struck:
“As a member of the Doctoral Council, it is my goal to expand the support services we offer to doctoral researchers, with equal opportunity, mental health, and work organization at the forefront. It is also important to make the work of the Doctoral Council more transparent and more visible both digitally and in-person, for example through committee work. This will make it more effective in addressing the issues facing doctoral researchers in Hamburg.”
Janika Stille:
“As a member of the Doctoral Council, I want to create a space for direct exchange between doctoral researchers in Hamburg, so we can explore mutual needs and jointly address these as quickly as possible.”
Karoline Thorbecke:
“My goal is to provide good supervision and assistance during doctoral studies. To do that, I would like to establish services that inform the doctoral researcher and the supervisor about the criteria for good supervision and to support their communication with each other. It is also important to me to create opportunities to ease supervision and recognition duties for supervisors to improve the general conditions. In the long term, my goal is to advocate for the co-determination of the Doctoral Council in search committees, so that supervision is also taken seriously as an appointment criteria.”
