We will start off our event with a conversation with Katharina Fegebank, Hamburg’s second mayor and senator for science, research and equalities, and Dr. Nicole Elleuche, managing and administrative director at European XFEL. How do they view doctoral students and graduates? How do they rate their career opportunities? What can the Ministry for Science, Research and Equalities do to promote the professional prospects of highly educated early career researchers? Katharina Fegebank and Dr. Nicole Elleuche will also be talking about their own ways to the top of the Hamburg Ministry of Science, Research and Equalities and to the top of European XFEL.

We will conclude the Karrieresprung event by exploring 2 interesting career fields: academic management and professorships at universities of applied sciences. Dr. Muriel Helbig, who has worked in both fields, will talk about her personal experiences.

Muriel Helbig has been the president of the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences since 2014. She holds a doctorate in psychology and previously headed the Department of International Relations at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Before that, she worked in graduate funding at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Muriel Helbig is the designated vice president of the DAAD, a member of the board of Hochschulallianz für den Mittelstand, one of the HRK spokespersons for the universities of applied sciences, and a member of the University Council in Emden/Leer.
