More than 100 doctoral researchers from the nine member universities of the Hamburg Research Academy came together on 21 May 2026 at betahaus Hamburg for the HRA Promovierendentag. Under the motto "Your Career, Your Story – Career Development for Doctoral Researchers", the sold-out event offered space for exchange, reflection and practical inspiration around professional futures after the doctorate.
At the heart of this year's Promovierendentag was the question of how doctoral researchers can confidently shape their individual career path, whether inside or outside of academia. Through workshops, discussions and talks, participants gained hands-on insights into topics such as decision-making and compelling self-presentation.
The day opened with Dr. Christoph Senft and Dr. Imke Franzmeier sharing personal reflections on their professional journeys, opening up diverse perspectives on career paths after the doctorate. As the programme unfolded, participants had the opportunity to develop concrete tools and strategies for their next career steps and reflect on them together.
A particular highlight was the closing Science Slam, organised by the HRA's Doctoral Council. The contributions impressively demonstrated how scientific topics can be communicated creatively, accessibly and well beyond an academic context.
The Hamburg Research Academy extends its thanks to all participants, contributors and speakers for the inspiring exchange and a truly successful event.
The Hamburg Research Academy supports doctoral candidates from all member universities in the various phases of their doctorate. With a wide-ranging continuing education program, individual advice and a variety of information services, it promotes academic qualifications, career planning and personal development. In addition, the HRA offers a platform for cross-university exchange and strengthens networking within the Hamburg scientific community.
