When you register, you can choose a workshop.
World (in English!)VUCA is more than just another trendy catch-phrase. It is a way of understanding the world around you. VUCA stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity & ambiguity. In this workshop we explore the mindset that is needed to navigate the problems of todays working environment. We will also discuss four agile practices that you can implement easily to help manage the challenges of our complex digital and dynamic world. Jules Grant’s 10+ years of experience as manager & leader in hospitality, mainly luxury hotel chains, form the foundation of her coaching and facilitation work. Since 2012 she is focusing on leadership coaching, everything New Work and corporate culture across a variety of industries. She is endlessly fascinated by what can be achieved when people create the space for reflection and growth. Workshop 7: Career Orientation: How to find a job that really suits me (in English!)When looking for your next collaboration or job, you need an effective way to showcase the complexities and subtleties of what you have to offer. You also need a way to personally connect with the people you will be working with. Networking provides a powerful and controllable way to find and connect with the most appropriate people who will be part of your next career stage. This isn’t about the hard sell; it is about developing a mutually beneficial network that aids the scientific work and people’s careers. Rob Thompson is a TEDx and keynote speaker who speaks at conferences all over Europe. Before forming his consultancy RTTA, Rob worked managing projects in both retail and banking/insurance in London. Workshop 8: Building your career beyond academia – where to start, what to do (in English!)Transitioning from academia to another sector can be challenging: How do my skills translate to a job in the business, public or non-profit sectors? Where can I find inspiration and what’s behind certain job titles? How should my CV and a cover letter look like? Are there other ways to get a job? Do I need a LinkedIn profile and how can I leverage this tool? What can I expect in job interviews and how do I deal with narratives such as being “overqualified”? The workshop will give answers and offers a space to discuss questions and experiences of the participants. Anne Schreiter is Executive Director of the German Scholars Organization (GSO), an independent nonprofit that advises, connects, promotes, and funds researchers who want to build a career in Germany. After receiving her PhD in Organizational Sociology from the University of St. Gallen, she spent a year as postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley, USA. Learn more about her journey here. |

Workshops
When you register, you can choose a workshop.
3-4:30 pm |
