On November 5 and 6, 2025, the Hamburg Research Academy hosted the first-ever Hamburg Postdoc Days. Around 60 postdocs from Hamburg’s universities came together for two days dedicated to exploring academic career development.
The opening evening on November 5 focused on honest exchange and personal stories: under the title “The Professorship Journey – Honest & Unfiltered,” Prof. Dr. Ingrid Piller, Prof. Dr. Henning Moritz, Prof. Dr. Grischa Perino, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Zhen Ru Dai shared their diverse paths to professorship. They spoke candidly about setbacks, tough decisions, doubts and the milestones that shaped their careers.
The subsequent networking session offered plenty of space for questions and conversations in a relaxed atmosphere.
The second day featured a rich workshop program at the Hamburg Research Academy. Parallel sessions for early-stage, experienced, and advanced postdocs as well as junior research group leaders covered topics such as research funding, leadership skills, communication, and appointment procedures.
