HRA spotlight – All about English: Helpful tips and insights on writing about your research in academia’s lingua franca
More and more research fields demand that papers and articles are written and published in English in order to increase the international visibility of – and access to – that research. While you have probably read many sources in English, you still may never have had to write about your own research in the language. This brief spotlight event will offer some insights into what makes academic English different from both general English and other languages, and help you determine what steps you can take to meet the expectations of readers all over the world. Participants will apply conscious text reception to the improvement of text production, thus gaining awareness of the special features of academic English and how to acquire them. To help illustrate this in a personally relevant way, participants are strongly encouraged to bring along short iconic or exemplary texts from their own fields in English and/or German for some interesting analysis and comparison.
HRA spotlight: The Hamburg Research Academy offers regular 2-hour information sessions on topics central to the doctoral and the postdoctoral career phase. Experts provide basic information and answer your questions.
This event is open to all interested researchers. However, the content is geared to the needs of the listed target groups. The participation is free of charge, prior registration is requested.
